  Modern concept for partial restoration of pulpless teeth

Endodontically treated teeth are very often the subject of a systematic prosthetic treatment that does not take into account the amount of loss of the coronal tooth material. Enhancement of our knowledge concerning non vital teeth, advances in the field of biomaterials and a longer span of life increase the potential for retreatment thus leading to a relevant alternative choice for the classical crown. So, Dr F.BUKIET and I devised the Restaurations Partielles Collées (R.P.C) or Partially Bonded Restorations. Those restorations follow the guidelines of modern odontology: conservation and adhesion: :

* Less mutilation of dental tissues.
* Quality immediate temporization in endodontics or periodontology.
* Ease of reintervention for endodontics.
* Periodontally less aggressive.

Field of indication for RPCs on non vital teeth will be analysed from a set of parameters among which loss of tooth substance will be essential (volume, architecture and localisation). RPCs whether in the anterior or posterior region can be elaborated with different materials: ceramics, composite, fibre or metal reinforced composite, metal. These restorations will be cemented or bonded.Our presentation will show different clinical cases with their rationale. Nevertheless those new techniques are not yet sufficiently proven in the clinic. Multicentric prospective studies seem to be necessary to test their long term reliability as well as many other techniques now in use
